Appeal for witnesses following serious assault in Southampton

We’re appealing for witnesses following a serious assault that took place last night (11 July) in Lower Banister Street, Southampton.

It was reported that a large group of people were fighting in the street, near to Popworld, at around 11.30pm.

During the incident, a man in his 30’s was hit in the face with a glass. He sustained facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

A woman in her 20’s was also assaulted during the incident. She sustained minor injuries to her chest and arm.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or recorded it on their phone as this may help with our enquiries.

Three people have been arrested as part of this investigation and remain in custody at this time.

Those arrested are:

• A 20-year-old man from Southampton, arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

• A 20-year-old man from Southampton, arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing actual bodily harm.

• An 18-year-old man from Southampton, arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
