Would you be able to identify a hate crime?

Alert message sent 01/03/2021 16:40:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Afternoon all,

We wanted to update you on an area that we’re always working hard on, and always working to improve on, within the city – hate crime.

Portsmouth is a wonderfully diverse city and its many communities are part of what makes it so unique. Sadly however, as with most towns and cities, we do see reports of hate crime often.

We want our communities to be aware of what constitutes a hate crime and to be confident to report it when it happens. So, keep following our social media posts over the next few weeks as we’ll be sharing a range of useful information on hate crime within Portsmouth and how to report it.

To kick off with, we’d like to ask you – would you be able to identify a hate crime?

Unfortunately, hate crime is often under-reported by victims, commonly because they’re unaware that they have experienced it or because they’re unaware of their rights and the support available to them.

We know everyone is quizzed-out since the start of lockdown but what’s one more? Take the quiz below to test your knowledge on hate crime and join Portsmouth Central Inspector Marcus Kennedy on Wednesday (3rd March) from 2pm-3pm on Portsmouth Police's Facebook page when he’ll be leading a discussion based on your answers.

If you’d like to join the conversation then visit Portsmouth Police's Facebook page on Wednesday at 2pm – there will be a dedicated post for your questions/comments. If you don't have Facebook, feel free to send in your question as a reply to this alert and we'll put it to Inspector Kennedy.
