Crime prevention advice:

CYCLE THEFTS

Dear Resident

You may be aware that there have recently been incidents of cycle theft in the Town centre and surrounding areas.

The purpose of this newsletter is not to frighten you but to raise your awareness and ask you to be extra vigilant.

There are certain measures you can take to reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim yourself, such as:

Marking your bicycle with your postcode will deter a potential thief.

Registering your bicycle on www.immobilise.com along with a photo and serial number. This will assist the police with identifying recovered property.

Always securing bicycles to a stand if available. Otherwise use a static object such as a lamp post or railing.

Securing your bicycle with a Sold Secure D lock.

Quick release accessories are vulnerable. Consider replacing the lever with a security bolt or remove them when leaving the bicycle.

Lights are made detachable, so remove them before a thief does.

Report suspicious activity to the police on 101 or anonymously via the Crime stoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
