Telephone Scam - Romsey

Alert message sent 18/08/2020 15:07:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Dear resident,
We’d like you to be aware of a telephone scam that has been reported to us recently in the local area.
Person(s) have been calling pretending to be employee’s from Virgin Media. They state their reason for calling is due to internet issues. They then ask for you to enter various different codes into your computer in order to take control of it. From here they can access things like internet banking.
Please be aware of the same or similar scams going round. If you feel that you may be being scammed, hang up. Be mindful fraudsters can stay on the line once the phone is hung up, so it’s worth calling a friend/relative so you know you can dial out safely.
Please report all fraud incidents to Police via 101 or online: www.hampshire.police.uk/ro/report/.
Please also report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online: https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/
Stay safe,
