Community Update

Alert message sent 30/06/2020 09:47:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Hello residents,

It’s been a while since my last update but I know many of you have seen me out on my bike and I have enjoyed stopping to chat to you.

I have been given information that antisocial behaviour by teenagers seems to be occurring more frequently at Hatch Warren Community Centre, the community garden at Stratton Park and Powerleague at Community College Brighton Hill. (I would like to remind parents that the football pitches at Powerleague are closed and their children should not be using them unless having 1 to 1 coaching).

I will be including these areas in my patrols, as will the Community Support Patrol Officers for the area.

Crime remains low in this area although there has been a rise in thefts of catalytic converters.  This is happening in all parts of Basingstoke, mostly in the afternoons.  We have the following advice:
Where possible, park in your garage.
Alternatively, park in a location that restricts access underneath your vehicle.
Consider security lighting.
If your catalytic converter is "bolted on", you can have the bolts welded shut.
Consider the installation of CCTV to protect your vehicle.
Identify/etch your converter with a unique serial number (see Retainagroup) and advertise that the vehicle has been protected (window stickers).

Police are investigating several residential burglary attempts in the Hatch Warren area.
The simplest way to deter opportunist burglars is to:
lock all windows and doors, remembering to double lock UPVC doors (lift handle and turn key).
Keep all keys out of reach and sight from the letterbox (remember a device could be used to hook keys through the letterbox).
Ensure side gates are locked to prevent assess to the rear of the property.
Check your insurance documents for any specific security requirements or upgrades.
Do not leave ladders and garden tools in your garden, lock them away in your shed.
Improve natural surveillance at the front of your property i.e. trim high hedges.
Consider fitting security lighting and a burglar alarm.

I am sure most of you are aware of a stabbing incident in Schubert Road on June 20th.  Police are investigating but we would like to reassure the community that we do not believe there is a risk to the wider public.
