Good afternoon!
Sadly, across Yateley, Blackwater and Hawley we continue to receive reports of unlawful catapult use, and we are still seeing indiscriminate damage being caused throughout the district by what we believe to be catapults.
We have recently identified two companies that have sold catapults to young people in our area. In the same way that we target those using them, we have now started making contact with those selling them in order to prevent the harm they are causing in our community.
I have sent letters to two different catapult suppliers to remind them of their responsibilities when selling items that can be used to damage property and harm wildlife. You can find a copy of the letter below.
Last week I also visited our friends at STIHL in Camberley. We informed them that one catapult supplier is using STIHL items as handles for catapults, which may bring disrepute to their name. We discussed ways to prevent this, and STIHL have since added information to their website, which you can find here: Misuse of STIHL file handles | STIHL. They have more tools (pardon the pun!) available to help tackle this issue and will continue to support us where they can. They’re also keen to help in the fight against tool theft and we’ll be meeting again in the future to discuss what we can do together to prevent it.
Thank you to STIHL for helping to combat an issue that is a priority for the people of Yateley, Blackwater and Hawley.
Stay safe, #PCBenB
