Open Letter to Residents |

Dear Residents,
As the year draws to a close and the festive season is upon us, I wanted to take a moment to wish you all a very happy Christmas and a peaceful, healthy New Year.
This time of year is traditionally one of reflection, and 2025 has undoubtedly been a challenging year for many within our community. Over recent months, demonstrations related to migration issues have formed a significant part of life in the Portswood ward. These events have brought disruption, concern and understandable frustration for residents, businesses and visitors alike, and they have also placed considerable demands on policing resources.
In addition to this, the community was deeply affected by the tragic death of Henry Nowak earlier in the month. The incident, which occurred very close to Portswood police station, understandably caused much shock and distress. While time has passed, I am very conscious that for some this remains an extremely difficult period. My thoughts continue to be with all those affected.
Throughout all of these challenges, I am grateful for the cooperation and engagement shown by residents over the past year, and for the many conversations that have helped shape our local policing approach.
Looking ahead to the New Year, it is clear that further challenges remain, but I remain committed to working with residents, partners and community groups to help keep your neighbourhoods safe, welcoming and resilient. Policing works best when it is built on trust, dialogue and mutual respect, and I look forward to continuing that work with you in the year ahead.
On behalf of the local policing team, thank you for your continued support. I wish you and your loved ones a happy Christmas and a safe, hopeful New Year. | ||
