Rogue Traders operating on the Isle of Wight |
||
Dear Residents,
We have had some reports of Rogue Traders attending addresses across the Island, so I thought a message out to you would be appropriate. As my old teacher would say “please read and inwardly digest”.
Be alert for uninvited traders who offer services and pressure you into immediate decisions, as they may be rogue traders. To stay safe, never agree to work on the doorstep, get at least three written quotes, check credentials, and avoid making upfront payments. If you feel threatened or pressured, call the police immediately on 999.
Rogue traders are people who appear to be qualified tradespeople who offer to do work at your home. They may pressure you into having work completed immediately by suggesting that urgent works are required to your property. Other warning signs include requests for large upfront payments, the absence of written quotes and a lack of a physical business address.
Common services offered by rogue traders and unscrupulous cold callers include general building work, gardening work, roofing, repairs and maintenance, and driveway resurfacing.
I have attached a couple of links to documents that may be beneficial in relation to identifying types of scams and rogue traders, along with information to help if you find yourself a victim of this type of crime.
Many thanks
PCSO 15093 Matt Wheeler
