Yesterday we issued a Hampshire Alert relating to a man who was charged with stealing a car in Whiteley.

The car was taken from a driveway in Rattigan Gardens at around 5.30am on Sunday 24 March, and was later found abandoned at Windhover Roundabout near Bursledon.

Joris Augustaitis, aged 19 and of no fixed abode, was arrested nearby having fled from the abandoned car.

He was subsequently charged and after appearing before Magistrates yesterday, he pleaded guilty to theft of a motor vehicle.

As a result, he was remanded in custody until 15 April when he will be sentenced at Southampton Crown Court.
