15 AND 17 LOWER NEW ROAD WEST END

Alert message sent 21/05/2021 15:37:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Dear Citizen ,

I am writing to let you know the person in control of 15 and 17 Lower New Road, has contacted me to discuss the ongoing issues. I have asked if the fencing can be upgraded and extended, due to the current fencing being breached.

This location is now on the North Neighbourhood Team’s radar and I will be attending to check on the location as and when I’m able, whilst out on patrol.

I am grateful to residents in the neighbouring properties for calling the police to let us know about young people entering the properties – Thank you.

Please can I ask that from now on, when you call 101, please can you tell the call taker the following information –
  • Please report the involved address as ‘15 Lower New Road’ – that way, we can track the reports easily.
  • Are there people in the site now? If so, please can you make the call taker aware it is happening now.
  • Please can you ask the call taker to check if anyone from NPT is on duty and if so, please can they send an NPT officer, as we want to find out who is getting into these properties.
  • Please let us know where and how they got in, if you can i.e. climbed over the front fencing.
  • How many people? rough ages? and clothing descriptions? if possible, so we can stop anyone in the area at the time, that might be involved.
I’ve spoken to nos 14 & 16 Chapel Road and they are happy for us to access the land next to 14 where the garages are, as this is a good vantage point to see the rear of 15 and 17 Lower New Road. So it may be that you will see uniformed officers in this area with torches looking at the back of the houses.

Do you know who is getting in? Can you name them? We are hoping to identify them, so we can speak to their parents and let the parents know what is happening due to the obvious safety concerns and the risk of further damage to the properties.

Do you have young people in your home? Please can you talk to them and remind them that illegally accessing derelict buildings is extremely dangerous due to the many different hazards; its pitch black inside, weak and rotting floors, extensive fire damage, debris lying around, weak roofing, unstable staircases and a risk of structural collapse.

Many thanks for your time and efforts,

PCSO 12948 Mica Woodcock.
