Keysafe Burglaries

Alert message sent 14/02/2020 08:21:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Good morning,

Over the past couple of days we've had two instances of burglary in Yateley, where keysafes have been forced from the wall and broken into to enter the property. We've now had six of these types of burglaries reported since the beginning of November. These offences are particularly happening where high value or high powered vehicles are present.

Based on this, unless it is absolutely essential I'd recommend removing keysafes from addresses for the time being as it's the simplest way of taking away that method of entry into the property.

If a keysafe is essential, we'd suggest placing it somewhere that is not in clear view from the road. Can it be placed behind a wall, or on the back of a pillar? Offenders will not be looking around every little bit of the address for a keysafe - these offences will be opportunistic rather than planned as searching for a keysafe can take too long and would be spotted.

I'll be out on Monday evening with a group of cadets letter dropping some crime prevention advice where we believe more vulnerable addresses may be located.

Stay safe,

PCSO 15945 Benjamin Blundell,
Hart North Neighbourhood Policing Team,
Yateley Police Station.
