Local Priorities Theft - (shoplifting, personal, other) Message

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Theft - (shoplifting, personal, other), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

Yesterday we posted about the start of Operation Scrooge, our annual operation targeting anti-social behaviour and retail crime in Andover and Romsey over the festive period.

The operation will see dedicated foot patrols in the town centres and retail parks every day in the run up to Christmas and beyond into January.

We will try to update you on our activity as we go along.

Yesterday, officers from Andover’s Neighbourhood Policing Team were out on foot patrol in Andover town centre when they arrested a woman in connection with two public order investigations.

The 36-year-old woman from Andover was arrested on suspicion of two counts of offences under the Public Order Act, and two counts of breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order.

Two of the offences relate to a public order incident at Best Western Hotel in Micheldever Road, Andover, on Saturday 15 November.

The two further offences relate to a public order incident outside Café Nero in High Street on Thursday 20 November.

She was taken into police custody and has since been released on police bail with conditions while we carry out further enquiries.

Today, officers working in Andover town centre arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of theft from a shop.

This relates to the reported theft of boxes of perfume from the Boots store in the Chantry Centre.

The man is currently in police custody while we carry out our enquiries.
