Local Community Update

Alert message sent 12/08/2019 12:20:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Hello,

I hope you are all enjoying your summer – I’m sure sunshine will be back again soon.

Here is your fortnightly community update:

There have been 3 reported burglaries in PACK LANE, BUTTERMERE DRIVE and PETREL CLOSE.  In one case persons unknown entered by open French doors while the resident was upstairs.  A mobile phone was taken but later recovered.  At another property the front door was left insecure overnight and various small items were taken.

One reported theft of a bicycle, left insecure, from outside One Stop Store in Stanford Road.

Some of the above reported crimes seem to have been committed by the opportunistic burglar and opportunist thief.  This is why it is always important to remember to lock doors, windows and back gates. Replace flimsy window latches and locks with sturdy ones.  Don't leave downstairs windows open at night. Don't leaves ladders or anything else that someone can climb up on.

DON’T MAKE IT EASY FOR THEM!

In the case of bicycles, use a good quality lock and don’t be tempted to leave your bike unsecured even if you are only going into a shop for a matter of minutes.

I am pleased to report there have been no reports of theft from vehicles since the last update.

Hatch Warren Community Centre continues to have issues with youths climbing on the roof when the centre is closed.  They also damaged an intruder alarm by kicking a football at it while on the roof.  If anyone knows who the children are who keep climbing on the roof please let police know.
We will pay a visit to the parents and hopefully put a stop to their antisocial behaviour.  The Community Support Patrol Officers also visit families and they have been very successful in stopping reoffending by youths.

Many of you will know you can give information anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111. But did you know their website also gives practical advice on keeping safe and protecting your family, business, home, vehicle and more?

Kind regards
PCSO Doherty
