Unlawful Pedlar

Alert message sent 01/07/2019 23:47:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Dear all,

On Monday July 1st 2019, in the Preston Candover area, Police received reports of a young man going from door to door cold calling offering household items such as cloths, ironing board covers etc. for sale from a large holdall.
The man was found and was interviewed and has subsequently been reported for summons to court for Acting as a Pedlar without a certificate, all his goods that he was selling have also been seized.
Anyone can apply for a Pedlars Certificate which can be purchased from the Police if they are of good character, this allows them to go door to door offering or exposing their goods for sale.
I urge all residents to always report anyone that comes to your door cold calling and tries to sell you goods from such holdalls etc. Please just say no and call the Police.
Doorstep crime is very relevant to us all and the Police will continue to act upon calls from residents to make sure that anyone acting unlawfully and especially calling on the more vulnerable in our communities will be brought before the courts.

Police Constable Andrew REID
