Beach Hut Security

Alert message sent 15/05/2019 12:36:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Dear Resident,

With the warmer weather finally upon us, it is inevitable that those lucky enough to own a beach hut will start using them more frequently as we move further into the Summer months.

With that in mind, please consider the following tips to help protect your hut and its contents -

- Fix strong solid shutters over glazed areas. These should be securely fixed and locked in place.
- Fix a solid steel security bar across the door. This should be bolted through the door and reinforced at the back (inside the hut) with a steel plate with matching aligned holes. Use concealed screws or coach bolts.
- Use good quality closed shackle padlocks which should be at least 6cm/2.5 inches wide and use coach bolts instead of cross head screws for fixing.

Any additional locks on the door should be positioned a third of the way down the door.

Please also ensure that you take as many valuables away with you as possible to prevent having them stolen in the unfortunate event that your hut is targeted.
