Local Update

Alert message sent 02/05/2019 21:58:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Dear residents of centre beat,

Hello I am your local PCSO James Headen. Please see this update for the centre beat area of Basingstoke consisting of Grove, Eastrop, Brookvale and Kings Furlong for the last couple of weeks.

Current Priorities

The three current priorities chosen by you are burglaries, criminal damage and theft from motor vehicles. In the last fortnight there have been 5 business burglaries. There have been 11 reports of criminal damage and 8 incidents of thefts from motor vehicles. The common theme for items being stolen from vehicles is that they have been left on show to the offender and the majority of vehicles have been left unlocked. Please ensure nothing valuable is left in your vehicles and that they are locked.

Crime Trends

Over the last 90 days three crimes that have seen the biggest increase are theft of pedal cycle, arson and robbery. To put this into context there have been 5 reported arsons in the last 90 days compared to 1 for the 90 days before that. Suspects have been identified and remain under investigation. There has been 10 reported robberies in the last 90 days compared to 4 for the 90 days before that. Offenders have been arrested and the investigation continues. Patrols are being concentrated in these key areas.

The three crimes that have decreased the most over the same time period are business robberies, burglaries and criminal damage.

The Grove area has shown a large decrease in crime over the last 90 days. Whereas Eastrop, Brookvale and Kings Furlong has shown a slight increase in reported crime for the last 90 days.

Apart from the town centre area which had a reported 112 shopliftings in the last 90 days, the area with the most reported incidents was Worting Road.

Something Else To Look Out For

Along with the increase of pedal cycle thefts there has also recently been a few reports of purse thefts in the town centre. If you use a pedal cycle please ensure it is locked up securely with a suitable lock. You can register your bike at www.immobilise.com. This is a free service used by Hampshire Constabulary to help relocate stolen property. When in the town centre please make sure your personal belongings and bags are secure and kept insight to reduce the risk of being stolen.

Don’t forget to register with your local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme at www.ourwatch.org.uk/join where you can cut crime, help and reassure those in your area, encourage closer communities and receive further updates of what’s going on in your area.
