Local Update

Alert message sent 02/05/2019 16:53:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Dear Residents,
Hello, I am your local PCSO – Debbie, please find an update from the last few weeks.
One of our current priorities for this part of the town – South which includes your postcode, is theft from vehicles.
In the last fortnight we have seen a slight increase in theft from vehicles, especially tool theft from vans having occurred in Greenbirch Close, Hawk Close and Watling Close.  A few residents have had items taken from unlocked vehicles.
Please avoid leaving property and valuables in your vehicle when you leave it unattended, and physically check your doors are locked.
If you put yourself in the shoes of a thief who was targeting an area what would you be looking for? easy to enter vehicles either because they are left unlocked or perhaps the security is not the best. Items on clear display where by breaking a window would be worth the effort and so on.
With theft of tools from vehicles please take the following advice:
Where possible, remove valuable items from the vehicle overnight and store them in a secure place.
• Do not leave tools or equipment on view inside the vehicle.
• Consider fitting an appropriate alarm system, protecting the cabin and load areas.
• Apply a security marking product to power tools and equipment (further details available on request). Alternatively, etch or emboss identifiable marks to these items.
• Consider installing secure storage containers or lockers in the van to store tools in.
• Ensure that the van doors are securely lockable and consider having suitable deadlocks installed.
• Make sure to physically check that the van doors and windows are locked if you have used the remote to lock the vehicle, even if the feedback indicates the van as locked.
• When visiting businesses, try to park close to the entrance and preferably in the view of CCTV
• Log your property for free at
There has been a burglary from a property in Homesteads Road where entry was gained through a window in the kitchen.
Two reports of stolen bicycles, sadly both of which were unlocked which has most likely left them vulnerable to being stolen.
To report crime or suspicious activity, call us on 101 or report it online by going to  You can also report it anonymously to Crime Stoppers instead of the police, on 0800 555111.
