Crime update

Alert message sent 28/04/2019 21:31:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Dear Citizen

Well, the end of year figures are just about here and for Shirley ward, overall “recorded” crime has gone up over the last 12 months by 2.77%, which equates to another 57 offences.
The biggest rise in this would appear to be violence without injury and public order.
Shed burglaries have also risen by 18 (30%).
Crime types that have gone down are; Personal robbery (3 fewer offences) and vehicle crime (31 fewer offences).
Also, reports of Antisocial Behaviour (ASB) over the same period have dropped by 122 which is a great result.
Over the last 90 days compared with the previous 90 days, there has been a slight increase in reporting (7 crimes), which seems to be down to a large increase of 29 more “violence without injury incidents”.
There were 7 fewer shed burglaries, 7 fewer violence with injuries, vehicle crime is the same and public order is down by 6 however, ASB is up by 24.
These figures still raise a lot of questions such as why have we had more shed burglaries? Can we prevent them? Where is the property being sold? Have people stopped reporting ASB or is there less being committed?
It’s important to us, as we can only plan our patrols and respond to what we know about. So if we are blissfully unaware that an area is being subject to crime or ASB, we can’t do anything about it.
I read a report recently from a victim who said that “There has been a lot of this in the street recently” but when I checked the reports, there was virtually nothing for the year so far.
If it’s beyond our ability to resolve a problem, we will always try to find another agency or team who may be able to assist, so please let us know about what is going on.
The 101 system sometimes resulted in a long wait to report lower priority matters and I’m sure a few people gave up after waiting for a while but there is a new call taking system coming in the next few months which should improve this and you can now also report things on line.
