Southampton rape investigation

Alert message sent 21/12/2018 15:27:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

We are now in a postilion to release more CCTV images of the man we want to identify as part of the investigation into the rape of an 18-year-old woman that happened in Riverside Park near the skate park just off of Woodmill Lane between 11.30pm and 11.50pm on Sunday 2 December.

Do you know this man?

We have traced the man’s movements back to Sainsbury’s Local on Burgess Road before the offence. These images show the man outside the store at around 11.15pm.

We have footage that shows the man following another woman to begin with. He sees her on Burgess Road and appears to follow her down Langhorn Road and onto Woodmill Lane and then Wessex Lane, where he loses her and then begins to double back on himself and follow the 18-year-old woman that was moments later raped in Riverside Park.

We believe someone will know this man from this image. Do you recognise him, his clothing, his hair or anything about him?

We are urging anyone with any information at all as to who this might be to get in contact with us immediately.

Call 101 and quote Operation Scorch. Alternatively, make a report by going to the following link: https://mipp.police.uk/operation/44HC18W09-PO1.

Remember to stay safe, please try to avoid walking alone at night, consider taking a taxi or a lift or just stick with friends and look out for each other. If you are walking alone anywhere, stick to well-lit areas and remain vigilant. Be aware of your surroundings and remind friends and family to do the same. Be wary of people around you, if you think you might be being followed seek help or a safe place if there is one nearby.

This is advice we give out throughout the year but it is especially important during the festive period when more people are out celebrating into the night.
